Man Utd Transfers: 5 World Class Midfielders Fergie Must Sign
linked with a move away from the club, as has Anderson, while Shinji Kagawa and Darren Fletcher have suffered injury-laden campaigns and have spent much of the current season on the sidelines. The arrival of Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace in the summer will provide United's midfield with a much needed injection of youthful vitality and pace, but the overriding feeling is that there is still much work to be done in the midfield department for Ferguson. The Red Devils have been linked with a number of players, both over the course of the January transfer window and ahead of the opening of the summer window in a few months, but thus far very little has come to fruition. Here, we take a look at 5 world class midfield targets that Ferguson must sign in the summer.
5. Frank Lampard
Despite scoring against San Marino in England's recent 8-0 rout and registering 16 times for Chelsea this season, there's still no sign of a fresh contract for the veteran midfielder at Stamford Bridge. This is quite perplexing considering he very obviously still has a lot left to give both for club and country, and considering Ryan Giggs, who is five years his senior, is still playing at the highest levels in midfield, Chelsea's apparent decision to wash their hands of the former West Ham United man seems all the more stranger. But Chelsea's loss could be United's gain and if Ferguson could land him on a free contract in the summer then why not? He took a similar gamble on Michael Owen and (to an extent) that paid off when the former Liverpool man popped up to score the winner in a Manchester derby. Lampard has been tipped with a move to the MLS when his contract runs down with the Blues, but that would be a huge step backwards for his career and would likely spell the end of his 2014 World Cup dreams. The MLS is where players go to retire; it's like a euthanasia clinic. Look what it did to David Beckham.
