Man Utd Transfers: 7 Players Louis Van Gaal Needs To Get Rid Of Today
3. Ashley Young
Another unwanted midfielder is Ashley Young, who is frequently an easy target for criticism from the club's support when things are going wrong. An unpopular figure, Young has earned himself an unwanted reputation as a cheat over the last couple of years thanks to his tendency for diving while his performances have waned badly of late. Last season he scored just twice in 20 Premier League appearances and didn't even make England manager Roy Hodgson's 23-man World Cup squad, which is a grievous insult to the wide man and an example of just how far he has fallen away recently. Signed from Aston Villa in 2011, Young hasn't been able to replicate the form he enjoyed at Villa Park. There, he scored 30 league goals over the course of his five-season stay and he hasn't been anywhere near as prolific at Old Trafford, where his career has gone backwards. If Young is first-choice on the wing, United have serious problems and if LVG should sanction his sale today very few would grieve.
