Man Utd Transfers - 9 Players Louis van Gaal Should Spend £200 Million On

6. Luke Shaw

If Ashley Cole is a short-term stopgap option in solving United's left-back issue, Luke Shaw is certainly the long-term solution at Old Trafford. The 18-year-old has a very bright future ahead of him, and that he has been named in England's 23-man World Cup squad this summer is indicative of his tremendous potential. Shaw excelled for Southampton last season, helping his club to an eighth-place finish, and has even been likened to former Saints star Gareth Bale. But what makes the starlet so appealing is that he would flourish under Louis van Gaal, a student of 'Total Football' who encourages his sides to attack. Shaw does just that. Speed, decision making and defending skills are all attributes that stand out with Shaw and in many ways he is similar to Patrice Evra in that he plays as an offensive fullback. United are reportedly on the verge of completing a £27 million swoop for the defender, who has apparently started house hunting in Manchester. Value: £27 million
