Man Utd Transfers Failure: 10 Deals Moyes Should Have Made

6. Fabio Coentrao - Real Madrid

Manchester United came ever so close to signing Fabio Coentrao on loan on the final day of the summer transfer window, only for it to fall through as Real Madrid failed to snap up his replacement. After a disappointing summer transfer window where the club only brought in Marouane Fellaini from Everton the fans piled on the pressure for Moyes and Woodward to bring in more players who could help contend for the championship and Coentrao certainly would have been a fantastic signing. Coentrao is quick and creative and can operate in multiple positions from left-back to left-wing as well as playing in defensive midfield. With Patrice Evra not performing to high standards, as well as the fact that he could be on his way out; Coentrao would have been a signing the fans truly appreciated. Alexander Buttner is not a Manchester United standard player and only a player like Fabio Coentrao would provide great competition for the current crop of left-backs available at the club. David Moyes should have tried harder to sign Coentrao and his mistake was leaving it too late. We will never know why he decided to leave it until the final hours of the window but if he enquired about a loan move a couple of weeks earlier then right now it would be one less problem in defence to deal with and now Manchester United are paying the price for it.
