Man Utd Transfers Failure: 10 Deals Moyes Should Have Made

5. Eliaquim Mangala - FC Porto

Another defender just shows the state of the Manchester United defence and this is not a new problem, for the last couple of years it has been clear that Manchester United need to sign a defender as Rio Ferdinand is not the same force he was a number of years back. The fans don't see Chris Smalling as somebody who will become a world-class defender and of course we know Nemanja Vidic will not be signing a new deal with Manchester United. That leaves Ferdinand, Evans, Jones and Smalling. If Manchester United want to impose themselves as serious title contenders next season then they need to sign a defender, and who better than FC Porto's highly-rated defender Eliaquim Mangala. The frustrating part is that David Moyes should have made his interest much clearer earlier on, if he did then perhaps Mangala would be playing at Centre Back right now. Mangala is only 22-years-old yet serves as a commanding defender, something the club will need as it seems everything is up in the air in defence and Mangala could have proven to be the one imposing defender they have been missing all season. David Moyes knows that Mangala is a fast and powerful centre back who can also play on the left so he does have more than one use which is beneficial for a club that look to be in shambles at the back. David Moyes may have gotten complacent in the past two windows, but he needs to make a move very soon as Mangala is hot property right now.
