Man Utd Transfers: Red Devils Set For £75m+ Bale Bid

It's silly season again.

It's another round of will Man Utd sign one of Real Madrid's most valuable attackers today as the Mirror are linking Gareth Bale with an astronically high feed move to Manchester in the wake of Rafa Benitez's sacking. The "brutal" lay-off is being touted as cause for encouragement to the Red Devils as they look to pull off an extraordinary record-breaking deal for the Welshman that would be worth more than £75 million. For anyone keeping track, that's four Andy Carrolls, which doesn't sound like a lot in those terms. New Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has insisted publicly that Bale is not for sale, but as he was thriving under Benitez, the Mirror say he's now disappointed and could leave. Because everyone would be disgruntled at the opportunity to play under the best attacking players European football has ever seen, right? United are sorely lacking attacking thrust, and the Mirror say they've now made Bale their number one target as a possible solution to that. He would certainly add something to the dour defensive football they've been playing recently. Obviously the required £75m - which would allow Madrid to rebuild their squad - isn't anything to be sneezed at, but if he were to become as useful to United as he was supposed to be for Madrid it would be a bargain. Benitez had been building his team around Bale, so Zidane's new regime might well seek change, but surely asking them to part with one of their Galacticos would be a bit far?
