2.4-5-1
De Gea Smalling Ferdinand Vidic Evra Jones Scholes Valencia Kagawa Young Rooney Verdict: One of the favoured formations that I would like to see deployed by Sir Alex Ferguson. In theory, Jones would be a holding midfielder with Paul Scholes just in front of him where he can be used as a deep-lying playmaker, in order for him to pull the strings which he does so well with his pinpoint passing. With a foil ahead of the defence it would allow a little bit of leeway in regards to the defence, however the lack of pace does still hold a worry. The attacking three ahead of Scholes could consist of either an advanced playmaker in Kagawa and two wingers in Valencia and Young, or of a tighter three within the middle of the park which could revolve around Cleverley Kagawa and Anderson. One of the disadvantages of this formation is that Rooney tends to drop quite deep to receive the ball and could see United at times playing with a 5-5-0. Rating: 7/10
