Man Utd: Worst Ever Premier League 11

Left-Back: Quinton Fortune

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3kCNk-nhWA The South African Quinton Fortune is an example of a player that was adequate enough, but could not live up to the expectations of Manchester United. Initially brought in by Ferguson from Athletico Madrid as cover for Ryan Giggs, Fortune proved to be versatile in a number of positions, probably because he was desperately looking for a way into the team. He was employed as on the left and in the centre of midfield, but his most prominent position was a left-back, and from his signing in 1999 to his departure in 2006, he made 126 appearances, scoring ten goals. It actually feels quite harsh to put Fortune on this list, because he was by no means a bad player. But, unfortunately, playing for United means that even being good is not enough to cement a place in the team. Frankly, during his stint at the club they won three Premier League titles, but in each of those seasons, he did not make enough appearances to merit a winners' medal. In the following years, he was able to make a few more appearances, but his misfortune was apparent as this was during a three-year barren spell from the title. Fortune was unlucky in that he was only ever good enough to make cover for the United first-team, and also being employed in a position that has seen some great players such as Denis Irwin, Mikael Silvestre and Patrice Evra.
