Centre-Midfield 1: Kleberson
When Manchester United were looking for some more midfield options after winning the Premier League in 2003, they couldn't really do any better than a World Cup winner. Kleberson played an integral role in Brazil's triumph in 2002 in the latter stages of the competition, and was attracting a great deal of attention from across Europe. Leeds attempted to sign him in 2002, but he refused to leave Brazil due to his girlfriend being unable to marry until she was sixteen (Kleberson incidentally was 23 at the time). Kleberson was signed as a replacement for the outgoing Juan Sebastian Veron, and both of their presences on this team displays that this must have been a seamless transition. Kleberson was anything but a World Cup winner at Manchester United, as after signing for
over £6 million he was badly injured in his second appearance, and these injuries and inconsistent form meant that he only played twenty league games for the club. With a team of superstar midfielders, Kleberson simply wasn't able to make the grade. But, he could smugly look at United legends like Beckham and Scholes when he showed them his World Cup winners' medal.
