Manchester City Transfer News: Javi Garcia To Sign

Manchester City are reportedly very close to securing a deal for Benfica midfielder Javi Garcia.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City are reportedly very close to securing a deal for Benfica midfielder Javi Garcia. The UK paper reports that a fee of £24 million has already been agreed, but other sources suggest a different figure. Duncan Castles, a football writer on Sulia argues that Benfica might have actually agreed to a significantly smaller fee and according to another report at Goal.com, City have agreed a fee of £18 million in total (£15 million up front and an additional £2.5m in add-ons). An exact figure, at the moment, is anyone€™s guess, but it certainly seems likely Garcia€™s transfer is an all but done deal. Signing Javi Garcia would place a cap on a furious day of spending for City boss Roberto Mancini, who has already completed deals for Inter Milan right-back Maicon and Swansea winger Scott Sinclair. According to a report in The Telegraph City have been in talks with Benfoca for over a week now, in what has apparently been an intense negotiation over the fate of the Spanish national €“ Mancini looks adamant to make a signing before the transfer window closes at 11pm tonight. Should the deal go through, the defensive midfielder will act as a replacement for Nigel De Jong, who has already left the Etihad Stadium side to join AC Milan in a £5m deal. Garcia is a versatile player and has been capped once at full international level by Spain.
