Manchester City Transfer News: Roberto Mancini Rues Inactivity

Manchester City Manager Roberto Mancini has criticised Football Administrator Brian Marwood over the transfer inactivity at Eastland's this summer.

The Sun, the Italian said:

€œI€™m not happy. After four months, I don€™t know what to say. You need to ask Brian Marwood. "You shouldn€™t be buying new players 10 days from the end of the pre-season, it should be two months from the end. I don€™t know what I can say because after three or four months... nothing.€
Aside from Hazard and van Persie, the champions have also been linked with Daniel Agger and Daniele De Rossi. So far however, nothing has materialised. The lack of any transfer activity may indicate a cooling period for the teams Abu Dhabi owners, whom having spent so much already, may be content to sit back and see if their title winning team is capable of doing it again. There may also be a degree of hesitance to splash the cash with the looming shadow in the shape of the Financial Fair Play Rules coming into effect over the next year or two. Over the road at Old Trafford, rivals Manchester United haven't hesitated in bringing in new players, with the signatures of Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell already secured, the Red Devils are also apparent favourites to land van Persie, too. And Mancini accepts that this could mean his sides chances of retaining their crown for what would be the first time in their history will be a much more difficult prospect.
€œIf United buy Van Persie it€™s better for them. €œThey need a player like Van Persie. He can play for any team as he€™s a top player. €œWe won the league on goal difference but we scored more goals, conceded fewer and beat United twice. We were also on top for 20 games. €œBut the margin was very tight and United start favourites this year. We€™re maybe second, third or fourth position. We have only 20 days until the end of the transfer window and I don€™t think we have a chance of getting him. €œVan Persie is an Arsenal or a United player €” I don€™t know what will happen.€
United fans will be glad that the proverbial boot is on the other foot this time, having had to watch their rivals splash the cash in the past whilst living off a frugal transfer and wage budget, the Old Trafford faithful will be glad of this apparent shift in transfer policy.
