Manchester City Transfers: 5 Players They Must Sign

1. Kalidou Koulibaly (Napoli)

While Aymeric Laporte is now a guaranteed week-to-week starter for Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, it seems that Pep is still not fully confident on who to start alongside the France international.

Throughout last season, Guardiola rotated Vincent Kompany, John Stones, and Nicolas Otamendi alongside Laporte, and the former Barcelona coach never particularly looked happy with two out of three of those options. The third option, of course, being City legend Kompany - who would surely have started every game if his fitness levels were what they once were.

After captaining the side to glory, Kompany has now left The Etihad to return home to Anderlecht, although Pep has yet add another centre-half to his squad.

With Harry Maguire edging closer to joining Manchester United rather than Manchester City, Guardiola must surely be weighing up a move for a new centre-half before the transfer window closes on Thursday, August 8th.

It may be a costly fee - United reportedly quoted £90 million for the player last season - but Napoli's Kalidou Koulibaly would be a great acquisition for City's backline.

Laporte is viewed as a stylish and classy defender who reads the game well. And while Koulibaly is indeed good on the ball, he would be the perfect compliment to Laporte as the 6'5" Senegal international brings strength and pace to the table.

Given the vile racist abuse Koulibaly received in Serie A last season, the imposing stopper may now see it as the perfect time for a move away from Italian football.
