Mark Webber Wins At Silverstone - British GP

Mark Webber drove a beautiful race to win at a surprisingly sunny Silverstone GP.

Mark Webber drove a beautiful race to win at a surprisingly sunny Silverstone GP, snatching the win from Fernando Alonso in the dying stages of the race with a perfect strategy. Alonso led the race up until the 48th lap of 52 but had to finish the race on the Soft tyres which led to his downfall as Webber completed the race on the harder compound which kept their life to push him to the win. Red Bull started the race on the soft compound unlike Alonso on the harder which meant they could run the strategy of completing the last 2 stints on the preferred hard tyres. Alonso pushed as much as he could but unfortunately his soft tyres started gaining in the last few laps enabling Webber to close in and pass through the DRS section with a lot more grip. Sebastian Vettel started closing on Alonso but ultimately was too far behind him to benefit from his tyres lasting longer than the Ferrari's so finished in 3rd. Felipe Massa showed more of his return to form battling away to grab 4th in his Ferrari, he seems to have found something that Jenson Button has lost! The British boys had a disappointing day, Paul Di Resta getting tagged in the first lap by Romain Grosjean's front wing causing a right rear puncture which damaged the floor of his Force India forcing him to retire. Jenson Button pushed at the start but his low grid position ultimately hampered him as he struggled to get by cars to further his final position and he ended up with the final point finishing in 10th. Lewis Hamilton drove well but struggled in the first stint on Hard tyres and could only finish where he started in 8th. The Lotus cars did well, finishing above their qualifying positions with Raikkonen and Grosjean in 5th and 6th respectively. Mercedes had a day to forget with Schumacher dropping down to finish in 7th and Rosberg having a nightmare in traffic finishing in 15th. Bruno Senna was in fine form, taking his Williams to a 9th place finish unlike his team-mate Maldonado who once again covered himself in controversy as he slammed into Sergio Perez taking the Sauber driver out of the race. In the lower places Hulkenberg raced well with Bruno Senna, scrapping for 9th and 10th until Senna passed him and he forgot about anyone else on the track as he tried to snap back and took himself off the track allowing Button and Kobayashi to pass him. This dropped him to a finish of 12th. The Toro Rosso's finished in formation with Ricciardo just in front of Vergne for 13th and 14th. Heikki Kovalainen finished well in 17th followed by both Marussia's of Glock and Pic with both HRT's of De La Rosa and Karthikeyan closing the field. Vitaly Petrov didn't start the race due to and oil leak in his car. So after all of the rain at the weekend and the hope of the British boys being able to handle the weather it was not to be, a relatively hot race but a few excellent hot laps from Mark Webber to put himself at the top of the pile! Top Ten; 1st Webber (Red Bull) 2nd Alonso (Ferrari) 3rd Vettel (Red Bull) 4th Massa (Ferrari) 5th Raikkonen (Lotus) 6th Grosjean (Lotus) 7th Schumacher (Mercedes) 8th Hamilton (McLaren) 9th Senna (Williams) 10th Button (McLaren)
