Mathieu Debuchy Leaves Newcastle Future In The Hands Of His Agent

One player we'd loathe to see depart St James' Park this summer is Mathieu Debuchy but it's a scenario for which we might have to start preparing.

The France defender was one of our most consistent performers last season and has built up a real affinity with the Toon supporters in the 17 months since he joined Newcastle from Lille. However, the caveat to that is that other club's have began to take greater notice of Debuchy with Paris Saint Germain and Roma known admirers.

And the 28-year-old insists he isn't paying attention to the speculation as he prepares for the World Cup, although we're slightly wary that Debuchy coyly mentioned that his agents are in control of any potential transfer talks in a press conference at Clairefontaine today.

"No, honestly, I did not hear about any talks over a possible transfers to table," he admitted "For my part, I do not feel affected by it. I leave it to my agents to manage that and I remain focused on the World Cup."

Is that Debuchy hinting that he wants to leave Tyneside this summer? It's long been mooted that the full-back is eager to follow Yohan Cabaye to PSG having joined Newcastle to play alongside his good friend.

A strong tournament in Brazil will undoubtedly increase the interest in Debuchy and if he truly does year for a reunion with Cabaye at the French champions we can't see the Club standing in his way.
