Newcastle 1-0 Sacramento Republic – NUFC Match Ratings

1. Tim Krul (Replaced By Freddie Woodman) - 7/10

There's still some life in the Dutchman yet. Despite having his poorest season as Newcastle's number one last term, Krul bounced back in Sacramento as he kept the home side at bay. Whenever he was called upon he did what was required, parrying a number of shots clear of his goal as well as overseeing a vast improvement on his much maligned kicking. Something to build on. Shoots of hope from the 27-year-old on Sunday morning.

Freddie Woodman - 8/10

It was a bit of a shock to see the England U19 international , but like his superior in the first half, whatever young Freddie was asked to do he was more than up to the task. But since he had that little bit more to do than Tim Krul, he is more than worthy of his 8/10. His evening started with a couple of fantastic, flying saves from long-range Sacramento shots before he was forced into a couple of more routine stops later on. On top of those, he dominated his area well from crosses, with one particular punch looking mightily impressive, and his distribution was pitch perfect. He knew when to go short and when he had to go long. Maybe Karl Darlow's current spot as United's number two isn't all too secure now...
