Newcastle: 7 Problems Pardew Still Needs To Fix Before QPR

3. Tim Krul's Kicking

There should be no excuse for a professional goalkeeper to kick the ball, without pressure into touch, and unfortunately, it's a problem that has not been ironed out of Tim Krul's game. Twice against West Brom he kicked the ball out of play, and that's not the only issue with his distribution. While he's mostly kicking towards Moussa Sissoko or Papiss Cisse when they're on the pitch as the biggest units, his distribution success rate is only 60% and his targeting is clearly a little off. Drilling down into the stats - which Pardew says he is constantly doing - you have to question why Remy Cabella has attempted 21 aerial duels in his time on the pitch. Inevitably he's lost out in 81% of those cases, but still the ball is aimed at his head. That suggests Krul is sometimes still kicking the ball at entirely the wrong person (as well, of course as the long-balls pinged up the pitch by Mike Williamson.)
