Newcastle Aiming To Land At Least One Of These Two Wingers Before Window Shuts
Krejci and Thauvin remain on Newcastle's radar.
Newcastle United are still aiming to recruit three players before the summer transfer window shuts - including at least one of two wingers, according to reports. The Chronicle claim that the Magpies are still hoping to sign a winger, a forward and even a centre-back - as long as they can offload one of their current crop. Interestingly, the publication suggests that Steve McClaren also wants a winger and that he is looking to add at least one of Sparta Prague's Ladislav Krejci or Marseille's Florian Thauvin to his squad this summer, if not both. Having already netted twice in 14 senior Czech Republic caps, Sparta Prague left-winger Krejci is already making waves in Eastern Europe. Earlier this summer, BT Sport report that Krejci - a player dubbed as the new Pavel Nedved - could be available for somewhere between £6 million-£10 million this summer. Krejci is renowned for his brilliant crossing ability and scored 11 goals in 51 starts across all competitions last season - including four in eight Europa League appearances. The 5ft 10in winger has made 100 league appearances for Sparta since making his debut, scoring 21 times and winning four trophies - including two Czech titles. Meanwhile, Thauvin has been a long-term target for the Magpies, and Newcastle have now seen several offers rebuffed this summer. Thauvin started his career at Grenoble before moving to Bastia in 2011. A transfer to Lille followed in 2013 but the French winger was immediately loaned back to Bastia where he scored 10 times in 51 games. It was in 2013 that Marseille beat Newcastle to Thauvins signature - and he has scored 15 goals and provided 14 assists in 79 appearances since. He has also netted seven times in 10 France Under-21 games. For all the latest NUFC News, Views and Transfers make sure to follow WhatCulture.com/NUFC on Twitter and Facebook.
