Newcastle Contemplating Move For Ex-Southampton Loanee

Could NUFC bid for Djuricic?

Newcastle United are preparing to make a move for former Southampton loanee Filip Djuricic, according to reports. ESPN FC claims that the Benfica midfielder is attracting interest from the Magpies and that they could make a move for a player they have been tracking for an extended period. The 23-year-old attacking-midfielder was on loan at Southampton last season but returned to his parent club at the end of the 2014-15 campaign - and he is a classy playmaker who loves to get forward as every opportunity. Djuricic has been capped 22 times by Serbia, netting on four occasions, and he faced Steve McClaren's FC Twente side while at Heerenveen. He made just nine appearances while on loan at St Mary's Stadium from January until the end of the season, failing to find the back of the net. A treble winner with Benfica in 2013-14 - when they claimed the Primeira Liga, the Portuguese Cup and the Portuguese League Cup - Djuricic started his career at Serbian side Radnicki Obrenovac before being signed by Dutch club Heerenven in 2009. After scoring 26 goals in 111 appearances for the Eredivisie side, Benfica took the six-foot-tall midfielder to Portugal in 2013. However, last season he was sent on loan to Mainz 05 in Germany and then Southampton. Djuricic has a career record of 28 goals in 171 appearances.
