Newcastle Monitoring English Defender
Tyrone Mings is an outside bet to arrive at St James' Park this summer...
West Brom are reportedly making a move for Tyrone Mings, but Newcastle United and West Ham are also said to be monitoring the situation. A number of sources, including the Express and Star, claim The Baggies are keen on signing the Ipswich man who impressed in the Championship during the 2014/15 season. The 22-year-old left-back made 42 appearances last term, as The Tractor Boys exceeded all expectations to make it to a play-off semi-final against East Anglian rivals, and eventual winners, Norwich. Given his impressive stature, Mings is comfortable playing either at left back of centre half which will undoubtedly appeal to The Magpies who need plenty of defensive reinforcements this summer. United would be more likely to use him at centre back due to their desperate need for cover in that position. Mike Williamson looks set to leave for Leeds United while Fabricio Coloccini proved last season that his days as a top level centre back are well and truly numbered. This leaves Steven Taylor, Jamaal Lascelles and Paul Dummett as Newcastle's recognised centre backs heading into pre season. Mike Ashley needs to open his chequebook. Nevertheless, Tony Pulis remains in pole position to sign the Englishman after being forced to play Joleon Lescott out of position for much of the second half of last season. Watch this space, Tyrone Mings would be a fantastic signing for Newcastle if they were to pursue him further and steal a march on West Brom.
