Newcastle Striker Wins Player Of The Month Award
Loan star Adam Armstrong has been outstanding for Coventry so far this season.
Adam Armstrong has won the League one player of the month award for August after the Newcastle loanee scored five goals in five games for Coventry.
Armstrong scored a brace on the first game of the season against Wigan and then followed that up against Millwall where he bagged another two goals, helping Coventry to a fifth place position in League One. The hope is that Steve McClaren can integrate Armstrong into his set-up at the end of the season and he can use his lower division experience to begin to compete at the top level. The 18-year-old, said:It would be a shame if the England U18's international didn't succeed at the Magpies as he's clearly a very fine young footballer. West Denton-born Armstrong has made 19 first-team appearances for Newcastle to date but is yet to find the back of the net.Its a great honour to win the award and totally unexpected.
Im always confident I can get goals but I never thought Id get off to the start I have done at Coventry.
Everyone from the manager and his staff, to the players and all the fans, have made me feel so welcome at the club. This award is for all of them really.
Hopefully it wont be the only success we can achieve together this season.
Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray, said:
The forward has been prolific in both the reserves and for England Under-18s, however - netting nine times in as many games for the Young Lions. Were all delighted to learn that Adam has won the Player of the Month award and he definitely deserves it.
Hes had a fantastic month and weve all been really impressed with him since he joined the club in pre-season.
Adam shows a fantastic humility on the training ground which means he is always listening to what youre saying and always looking to improve.
With his natural enthusiasm for the game and his ability to learn, Im sure well see more from him as the season goes on.
