Newcastle Transfer News: £10 Million Bid For Bakary Kone & Bafetimbi Gomis Coming?

Mirror. Defender Kone is also on the radar of Premier League newcomers Cardiff, with the Burkina Faso international set for a switch to England this summer. Magpie's manager Alan Pardew had initially urged new director of football Joe Kinnear to sign Gomis this summer, but Kone is also being offered by the French club. A double swoop would cost £10 million. Newcastle fans are becoming anxious that the club are yet to make any serious headway in this summer's transfer window off the back of a damaging campaign last season that almost saw the North East outfit relegated. Pardew has told supporters to relax however, and that he is on Kinnear's case about pushing through a deal. The former Reading boss said:

€œI€™m pushing Joe to get a transfer in. I think we need a boost now. We are in a situation where we want to progress now. The team is in a good place."
As well as pursuing Kone and Gomis, Newcastle also lead the race for unwanted Aston Villa striker Darren Bent. However, they are set to face competition from Bent's former club Tottenham for Gomis. Pardew added:
€œGomis is a player who would suit us, and we should pursue it as strongly as we can.€
Shola Ameobi meanwhile has been told he won't be leaving St James' Park this summer despite continued interest from Middlesbrough and Birmingham. The club's joint-top goalscorer last season, Papiss Cisse, continues to face an uncertain future however as his row with the Magpies over their sponsorship agreement continues to go on.
