Newcastle Transfer News: Dutch International Midfielder Targets PSG Move
Wijnaldum doesn't seem to be interested in a move to the North East.
Newcastle United and Sunderland target Georginio Wijnaldum has made it clear where he wants to move this summer - and it is not to the North East of England. Wijnaldum rejected a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain last year but he claims he is now ready to move to the French capital, despite interest from Newcastle, Sunderland, West Ham United and Manchester United in the £14 million Dutch midfielder. Reports had claimed that the Black Cats had launched an £11 million bid for Wijnaldum, only for that to be rubbished - before suggestions were made that Sunderland were not actually interested in the midfielder at all. Yet now it appears unlikely that Wijnaldum will move to a Premier League side after revealing his ambitions to play for PSG to Helden. He said:
"PSG's offer was solid (last year). They're a club you can't refuse, but the talks over my contract extension with PSV went well and quickly. "I wasn't ready (to move) - I followed my instinct. Last season (2013-14), I had been injured (and) I didn't have confidence in my abilities. And when you join PSG it's to play there. "Absolutely (I am ready to go to PSG now). A lot more than last year."Wijnaldum has already been capped 18 times by Holland, scoring twice, and is regarded as one of the most-promising players in Europe due to the fact he has a habit of regularly finding the back of the net. Both Newcastle and Sunderland would hope to negotiate down the £14 million fee, with Liverpool also interested, but if PSG and Man United do up their pursuit of Wijnaldum then the bidding process could go through the roof. Wijnaldum has already won three trophies with PSV and has made 152 appearances, scoring an impressive 56 times from midfield and contributing 23 assists, since moving there from Feyenoord in 2011. The midfielder also netted for Holland during the 3-0 third-place play-off win over Brazil at last years World Cup.
