Newcastle Transfer News: Magpies And Bournemouth Tracking £10m Crystal Palace Forward

The Magpies are looking to take one of Alan Pardew's prize charges.

Newcastle United and Bournemouth have both been linked with a move for Crystal Palace forward Dwight Gayle - though the Eagles are demanding at least £10 million for the 25-year-old forward. Steve McClaren is expected to be appointed as Newcastle's permanent head coach this week, six months after Alan Pardew left for south London, and the ex-England boss is believed to be looking to raid Selhurst Park for their forward. Newly-promoted Bournemouth have also expressed an interest in Gayle, who netted 10 times in 30 appearances last season, including on five occasions in the Premier League.
However, both clubs could be put off by the hefty £10 million price tag, despite the fact the Magpies are believed to have a "transfer war chest" of more than £60 million to spend this summer. The Sun claim Newcastle and the Cherries are both looking to prise the forward away from Palace in search of first-team football though, and he would provide versatility to the Magpies due to the fact he can play anywhere across the front three. Having been released by Arsenal as a youth player, Gayle moved to Stansted, Dagenham & Redbridge and Peterborough United before arriving at Palace for £4.5 million in July 2013. To date the 5ft 9in forward has scored 78 career goals in 158 appearances. For all the latest NUFC News, Views and Transfers make sure to follow whatculture.com/NUFC on Twitter and Facebook.
