Newcastle Transfer News: Magpies Told To Fork Out £10m For Chelsea Forward
Will Newcastle United really loosen the purse strings this summer?
Newcastle United have been told they must part with £10 million if they hope to lure Chelsea forward Patrick Bamford away from Stamford Bridge this summer. Sunderland, West Bromwich Albion, Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Everton are also interesting in signing the former Middlesbrough loanee, but Chelsea will not countenance a cut-price deal for the 21-year-old according to The Chronicle. Interestingly, Newcastle's hopes of signing the forward could also be scuppered by the imminent appointment of Steve McClaren as head coach, due to the fact he has previous with Bamford. The 21-year-old forward - who netted 19 goals during 43 appearances while on loan at Middlesbrough last season - grew frustrated during a spell under McClaren at Derby County in 2014. Despite netting eight times for the Rams, Bamford became disillusioned with being continuously shifted out to a wide berth by the former England boss. Jose Mourinho visited Brentfords Griffin Park last month to watch Bamford during Boros first-leg play-off tie with the west London club - and the Portuguese boss was impressed by what he saw. Bamford could therefore become available on loan next season in order to gain Premier League experience, with Chelsea only willing to sell if their £10 million valuation is met. Having started his career at Nottingham Forest, Bamford moved to Chelsea in 2012 and has enjoyed loan spells at Milton Keynes Dons, Derby County and Boro since. The twice-capped England Under-21 international has netted a total of 48 goals in 112 career matches to date, an impressive record for someone who can play as a striker or as a wider forward.
