Newcastle Transfer News: Moussa Sissoko Deal Close

Newcastle Chronicle. It is understood the deal is at an advanced stage with the player himself hoping that the move can be finalised. Talks had initially taken place with Sissoko's agent over a summer move, with the player's contract set to run until June. However, Newcastle are nervous over interest from Queens Park Rangers, Monaco and Marseille, and want to close the deal now to avoid the risk of missing out. Newcastle's midfield has also been beset by injury problems lately, whilst Cheick Tiote is away at the African Cup of Nations, which also explains why the deal has been brought forward. Sissoko is a box-to-box midfielder who has made close to 200 appearances for Toulouse, netting 21 goals since 2007. It is hoped that his acquisition will help ease Newcastle's relegation fears - the Magpies are without a win in six games and are teetering above the relegation zone. He is also a close friend of Yohan Cabaye, who has encouraged him to make the switch to St James'.
