Newcastle Transfer Round-Up: Every Player Linked From July 13th-19th
13. Garath McCleary (Reading)
Newcastle United are just one of a host of Premier League clubs who have been linked with a move for Reading winger Garath McCleary. The 28-year-old Jamaica winger has netted twice already for his nation this summer as they have reached the quarter-finals of the Gold Cup, and he also featured in the Copa America before that. EPSN FC claim the Magpies along with West Bromwich Albion, Watford and AFC Bournemouth are looking into the possibility of bringing the winger back into the Premier League this summer. With one goal in 12 caps for Jamaica, McCleary has received international recognition and is experienced in the English leagues. He began his career at Oxford City before moving to Slough Town and Bromley in non-league football. However in 2008 then-League One side Nottingham Forest snapped up McCleary and he helped the East Midlands club snatch promotion during his first season. After returning 13 goals in 123 appearances for Forest between 2008 and 2012, the winger moved on a free transfer to then-Premier League side Reading having been named the Midlands clubs player of the season. McCleary netted three times in his 31 Premier League games in 2012-13 and he has scored nine goals in 87 Reading appearances in all. However, last season injury restricted him to just seven appearances across all competitions. His career record reads: played 323, scored 48.
