The 43-cap Belgium international has been one of the main reasons why the Saints have been so impressive in defence this season - he has overseen nine clean sheets in 23 Premier League matches - and, although just 26, he has bags of experience. Alderweireld claimed three Eredivisie titles and one Dutch Cup with Ajax, before picking up La Liga with Atletico Madrid last season. Tottenham Hotspur are sniffing around him, which is why Southampton have been unable to wrap up his signature as of yet - but if Newcastle want proven Premier League quality and a player who has already featured at the World Cup then they should put in a £10 million-plus bid for the Atletico defender.
