Newcastle Transfers: 10 Greatest Modern Foreign Imports

1. Laurent Robert

Laurent Robert CC Admittedly, Robert was very much a hit and miss on match days - you never knew what player you would get coming out the tunnel. Tantrums, arguments and public spats were just an everyday part of life for Laurent Robert, but when he did play, wow did he play. I've never seen anyone who can strike a ball as sweetly and powerfully with a left foot as this guy, and he would have made Gareth Bale look average. One match I remember vividly was Newcastle's 4-1 drubbing of Tottenham at St. James where he scored arguably the finest brace in history. You can sit there for days trying to pick out his best goals for Newcastle, they're all wondergoals in their own rights. My personal favorite was the weird gymnastic-esq slowmotion somersault in mid-air volley against Fulham. As you can tell, it's pretty hard to describe. It's just a shame to see his attitude got the better of him, as his career suffered a quick decline once leaving Newcastle. http://youtu.be/9I5OMTzAFsA

So there we have it, a top ten list of the greatest ever foreign imports ever to play for the Toon. Do you agree? Maybe you disagree? Who did I leave out? Let me know by commenting below!
