5. Darren Bent
Some groups of Newcastle fans are against signing Darren Bent. An ex-Sunderland player who isnt exactly young anymore and barely played last season isnt their cup of tea. However, Bents issue last season at Villa was apparently financial as if he played so many games Villa would have to pay Sunderland more money, something they didnt want to do. This meant Bent was put in the reserves. His age also isnt a major issue. Newcastles squad lacks experience, many of the players havent played enough time in the Premier League and in games against Liverpool and Sunderland last year where Newcastle turned over, it really showed. Bent would bring bags of experience to the table but most importantly goals. What all Premier League teams crave is proven goalscorers and here Newcastle could get one on the cheap. Bent managed 32 goals in 58 Premier League matches with Sunderland is hugely impressive. If Newcastle could get this sort of form out of him, they would be a real threat.
