Newcastle United: 5 Players Pardew Must Buy For Champions League Finish

5. Vurnon Anita

Ajax's impressive Vurnon Anita ticks several different boxes for Newcastle. They require a left-sided full-back as an alternative to Davide Santon and Anita can play there. They need another central midfielder as back-up to Yohan Cabaye and Chieck Tiote now that Danny Guthrie and Alan Smith have departed and Anita is commanding in that position. For a long campaign next season, this is a player we aren't surprised they have made bids to try and secure. 23-year-old Anita started his career at left-back under Martin Jol but under current boss Frank De Boer has also proved useful as a defensive midfielder and his commanding presence has helped the Amsterdam outfit win back-to-back Eredivisie titles. As United are looking for new recruits in both positions, the Dutchman looks to fit the bill. Anita is contracted to Ajax until 2014 and should he move to Newcastle in a £7 million move (as per Newcastle's last reported offer), he would be Alan Pardew€™s second biggest signing for the club. P.S. - I also think Newcastle could do with an additional striker but preferably, and I don't think Newcastle do this enough, a forward to be brought in on loan. With Leon Best tieing up a move to Blackburn Rovers, Nile Ranger constantly having off the field troubles, Papiss Cisse & Demba Ba (if they both stay) likely to be missing for six weeks at the turn of the year and Shola Ameobi only really having the legs to be a bit part player in the season ahead (and to get an all important goal against Sunderland of course!), even if Newcastle sign De Jong need another body up front. The return of Sammy Ameobi of course gives you an extra body to push from the bench but Newcastle need a player in the old Antoine Siberski role who they can bring on and score a scrappy goal when required and lead the frontline when the numbers are down. I don't know who this mystery man could be but if I were Newcastle boss Alan Pardew, and I'm sure he is doing this, I would be scouting around for any loan deals or unknown foreign gems who can come in and be happy enough to make 12-16 appearances next season and perhaps score the vital 3 or 4 goals that see Newcastle through to the finish line.
