Newcastle United PREDICTED XI (And Score) Vs Northampton Town
How strong will Steve's team be for this second round match?
All eyes will be on Steve McClaren when his team for the Capital One Cup second round game at home to Northampton Town is named. Much has been made of how seriously Newcastle United will be taking the cup competitions this season following owner Mike Ashley's comments before the West Ham United game on the last day of the previous Barclays Premier League campaign. Ashley told of how he wasn't going to sell the club until they had either won something or qualified for the Champions League under his stewardship - and with European football a seriously long way off for a side that could have still been relegated on the final day of last season - winning one of the domestic cups will be a far more achievable route. This is a mantra that has been backed up new head coach McClaren, who stated on his arrival at the club that winning one of the two domestic cups was one of his "primary objectives". With that in mind, there's a good chance that United will field a strong team against The Cobblers. So let's try and second guess the former England manager. Here's who we think we play the game, and more importantly avoid the most embarrassing of cup upsets...
