Newcastle United Transfers: 5 Strikers Toon Should Buy Instead of Andy Carroll

5. Loïc Rémy

Remy€™s name has already been churned out by the rumour mill plenty this summer with newspapers linking Newcastle, Arsenal and Tottenham as the clubs interested in his services. At 6 feet tall Loïc primarily plays the lead striker role, but can play on either wing or as a second striker. He€™s currently at Olympique de Marseille, a club which is well known to be struggling financially. So although the French club has placed a £15 million price-tag on the 25 year old, whether or not that€™s the lowest they will go remains to be seen. Marseille is also the same club where The Magpies picked up the sublimely talented Hatem Ben Arfa. Remy has 17 caps for the French international team, and would fit perfectly with the French revolution at Lé Toon. The similarity between Ligue One and the Premier League in regards to the style of play and thus the ease of transition to the English game could be why chief scout Graham Carr has a certain inclination towards French targets. What Newcastle United has lacked up front for a while is pace. Good honest speed. Demba Ba and Papiss Cissé aren€™t slow. But they aren€™t rockets either. Remy€™s acceleration would bring a whole lot more to the Newcastle strike force. Ex-Marseille and now French first team coach Didier Deschamps described Remy (albeit not very illuminating) as €œa young international who is fast and powerful with huge potential€. Remy scored 12 goals last season and 15 the season before showing that he knows how to put the ball in the back of the net.
