Newcastle United Transfers: Every Graham Carr Signing Ranked Worst To Best

Signed From: Unattached

Apparently, someone thought that replacing short-lived talismanic Andy Carroll with lower league journeyman Shefki Kuqi was anything other than a poorly conceived joke. He was signed solely as a body to replace Carroll, who joined Liverpool too late in the transfer window to make signing a replacement really possible, and provided little evidence on the pitch that he deserved the move.

Predictably, he made six appearances from the bench and failed to score.

42. Romain Amalfitano

Signed From: Reims

It would be nice to think that Newcastle accidentally signed the wrong Amalfitano brother when they brought Romain in from Reims in 2012, because there's no way he could have been signed on merit.

Deemed a "low-risk" squad player - mostly because he cost nothing - he played in the Europa League (and friendlies) and never looked up to the task of playing in the Premier League.

41. Luuk de Jong

Signed From: Borussia Monchengladbach (LOAN)

In the grand history of Newcastle signings, there have been a couple of baffling anomalies: like Jon Dahl Tomasson, prolific Dutch striker Luuk De Jong came to Newcastle with a reasonable reputation, did absolutely nothing and then left and starting scoring for fun again.

He struggled badly for confidence after joining on loan from Gladbach - which wasn't helped by Alan Pardew playing him out of position - and inevitably he failed to score a single goal.
