Newcastle United - WhatCulture End-Of-Season Awards

5. Embarrassing Result Of The Season Award

Chris' Winner: Everton 3-0 Newcastle United (Premier League, March 15th). There could have been many additions to this list, but that day at Goodison Park was harrowing. Against an Everton side who had been abject all season up until that point, Newcastle capitulated and were soundly beaten. Tim Krul moved out of the way of James McCarthy's opener, Yoan Gouffran gave away a needless penalty for Romelu Lukaku to add a second, and Ross Barkley ghosted through the Magpies defence for the third. And, to top it all off, skipper Fabricio Coloccini got himself stupidly sent off. An awful and embarrassing day. Ross' Winner: Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 Newcastle United (Capital One Cup quarter-final, December 17th). After every round up until this pointed I tweeted saying it would be our year to win the competition - but obviously that dream was shattered in north London. Newcastle conceded after 18 minutes to Nabil Bentaleb's header, then in the second-half things went from bad to worse - with Nacer Chadli, Harry Kane and Roberto Soldado all netting. In truth, it could have been a far-heavier defeat - and yet again Toon fans' dreams were shattered.
