Newcastle United's Worst-Ever Premier League XI

11. LEFT-WINGER - Albert Luque

Newcastle United: 2005-07

Nationality: Spanish

Position: Forward/Winger

Cost: £9 million (Signed from Deportivo La Coruna)

Premier League Appearances: 21

Premier League Goals: 1

When Graeme Souness didn't think he was going to be able to get the Michael Owen deal over the line in August 2005, Freddy Shepherd responded by lavishing £9 million on a forward the Scottish manager simply didn't want.

Blessed with pace and finishing ability during his time at Deportivo La Coruna, Luque was struck by a hamstring injury in just his second game for the Magpies - and never recovered any of his speed.

Just one goal in 21 Premier League appearances arrived - albeit against Sunderland - and Luque looked a lost soul at Newcastle. A colossal waste of money.
