Newcastle's 4-Man Head Coach Shortlist - And 4 Names Who Should Still Be In The Frame
Names On Newcastle United's Shortlist...
5. Remi Garde
Age: 49 Nationality: French Clubs Managed: Lyon (2011-14) Managerial Honours: 2011-12 Coupe de France (Lyon), 2012 Trophee des Champions (Lyon) Former Lyon boss Remi Garde was linked to the job in January, immediately after Pardew left for Crystal Palace, and originally the 49-year-old was extremely interested in moving to St James Park. However, due to the Magpies alarming and rapid slide down the Premier League table, it is believed that Garde has gradually lost interest in moving to Tyneside in recent months - although he could yet be convinced due to the fact Newcastle have now retained their top-flight status for another season. That is the reason why he remains one of the names on the Magpies' shortlist, according to some reports, although others claim he is not in the frame. With a 51.28% win ratio from his time spent as Lyon boss between 2011 and 2014 (played 117, won 60, drew 26, lost 31), and having won the Coupe de France and the Trophée des Champions in 2012, Garde has a history of success as a manager. Garde is regarded as one of the best managers across The Channel, and the former France, Lyon, Strasbourg and Arsenal defender now appears to be targeting a role on the continent instead of in England. Yet if Newcastle could convince Garde to take up the St James' Park hotseat then his past record at Lyon suggests he would develop youngsters and play an attacking, exciting brand of football. Chances Of Getting The Job: 5/10
