Newcastle's Premier League Managers Ranked As Players - Worst To Best

15. John Carver

Newcastle United Manager: 2015 (Caretaker then Interim) Position: Full-Back Clubs Played For: Newcastle United (Youth, 1983-85), Cardiff City (1985-86), Gateshead (1987-90) League Appearances (Goals): 116 (10) International Side (Caps/Goals): N/A Honours (As A Player): N/A
If anything his playing career was even more of a disaster than his managerial one - and that's saying something... Carver was a youth-team player at Newcastle but he was released in 1985 having never made a first-team appearance. After moving to Cardiff City, he played 13 times before a thigh injury halted his professional career at the age of just 20 - and instead he went on to represent Gateshead 113 times in the league. Without doubt the least-talented player of all Newcastle's Premier League managers - and this might even be something he would admit, even if does believe he is the "best coach in the Premier League"...
