Newcastle's Premier League Managers Ranked As Players - Worst To Best

11. Glenn Roeder

Newcastle United Manager: 2006-07 (Caretaker then Permanent) Position: Defender Clubs Played For: Leyton Orient (1973-78 and 1992), Queens Park Rangers (1978-83), Notts County (Loan, 1983), Newcastle United (1983-89). Watford (1989-92), Gillingham (1992-93) League Appearances (Goals): 561 (31) International Side (Caps/Goals): England B (7/0) Honours (As A Player): N/A
Loved on Tyneside, Roeder captained the Magpies from defence during the 1980s and he was a stalwart of the Queens Park Rangers, Watford and Newcastle teams for years. Capped seven times by England B - though he never represented the Three Lions at senior level - Roeder had undoubted ability and he was calm and measured on the ball. Few players have been as masterful at controlling the pace of the game from the back in recent decades as Roeder was. Certainly not a top, top player, but one who commanded respect and he may well feel a little aggrieved that he is so far down the list - but the competition up top is fierce.
