NFL: 5 Pre-season Position Battles To Keep An Eye On

-->

1. Philadelphia Eagles Starting Quarterback

This quarterback competition will be the most interesting battle of the offseason, as three viable competitors duke it out to lead new head coach Chip Kelly€™s unique style of offense. The first name to look at is Matt Barkley, the rookie quarterback from USC. Chosen with the first pick of the fourth round, Barkley fell due to a lack of arm strength that many believe can€™t cut it in the NFL, but Barkley€™s accuracy is his calling card. A born leader, Barkley has a shot at the starting position due to his accuracy, but I€™m expecting his rookie season to mostly be one where he holds a clipboard on the sidelines. The second name in this competition is Nick Foles, the second year quarterback who ended up starting many games for the Eagles last season. As the season progressed, so did Foles, showing a command of the offense and a powerful arm that could be paired with the speed of wide receivers DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin.

Finally, the last competitor is one of the most polarizing players in the entire NFL, Michael Vick. Vick has led the Eagles for the past few seasons, but his play has gotten worse and worse with each passing season, and injuries have been a factor every year. However, Vick fits Chip Kelly€™s fast offense the best with his speed and quickness, traits that neither Barkley nor Foles possess. Resigned to a new one year deal this offseason, Vick is in the driver€™s seat for this battle, but don€™t rule out Foles, with Barkley being a dark horse in the competition. The winner of this battle will lead one of the NFL€™s most explosive offenses, and lead the Eagles in one what could be argued as the toughest division in the NFL, the NFC East.

My projected winner: Michael Vick
