NFL: 5 Quarterbacks Who Could Lose Their Starting Job

4. Brandon Weeden

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aUbkSR4wtWI Brandon Weeden is in an awkward situation. When he was drafted last year it looked the opposite though. The plan was that he could turn around the Browns franchise and play for about 7 seasons since he was a 28 year old rookie. He would play under Pat Shurmur under the West Coast Offense and would generate some points in Cleveland. Well with new ownership, a new president, a new general manager, and a new coaching staff, things don€™t look too bright for Weeden. From a talent prospective I really like him. He has good size for the position and possesses a strong and accurate arm. He stands tough in the pocket and seems to have an understanding on what he is doing. However, there are a few reasons why I think new coach Rob Chudzinski will replace him. Chudzinski was the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers prior to taking over the Cleveland Browns. It seems like he€™ll want to install what he did with Cam Newton and find a mobile quarterback. They signed Jason Campbell in the off-season to push Weeden and maybe they want to install the spread option with Campbell. Can Campbell run the spread option? Who knows? Since they hired Norv Turner to be the offensive coordinator they could run the offense built around Phillip Rivers in San Diego. However, I think Chudzinski likes what he did in Carolina and will want to find some way to install it in Cleveland. Also the fact that Weeden will be 30 in October doesn€™t help his case and also the fact that general manager Mike Lombardi was never high on Weeden in the first place shows that he could lose his job this season. However I hope he proves me wrong because I€™m rooting for the kid.
