NFL Draft: Winners And Losers - Full Recap

AFC West

The AFC West is the Broncos division as of now. Kansas City has overhauled their team, Andy Reid was brought in to coach. Reid immediately went out and brought Alex Smith in. That began their transformation. They had Jamaal Charles and Dwayne Bowe in place already, with nobody decent under center. The Raiders gift wrapped a first and second round pick to the Bengals for Carson Palmer, that was a failed experiment. So they are now moving on. Matt Flynn was brought in. If Darren McFadden can stay healthy, they could be serviceable. And the Chargers, what happened here? They were a contender and had one of the top QBs in Phillip Rivers. They are trying to make something happen. Until one of these teams step up, it is the Broncos to lose. The Broncos lost Elvis Dumerveil, but brought Wes Welker in from New England. Peyton now has weapons all around him. This could be a big season from 18. Broncos- RD 1 Sylvester Williams (DT), RD 2 Montee Ball (RB), RD 3 Kayvon Webster (CB), RD 5 Quanterus Smith (DE), RD 5 Tavarres King (WR), RD 6 Vinston Painter (OT), RD 7 Zac Dysert (QB) The Broncos wanted some defensive help, Williams and Webster were brought in for just that. Webster will be important for their DBs, in the playoffs you see why they need that. Williams will be a force up front, good luck running on this big boy. Montee Ball is the big pickup for this team. The running game isn't solid, injuries tore up Willis and Knowshon. Ronnie Hillman has upside, but he may be too small. Montee Ball immediately gives this team a good running game. Quanterus Smith was brought in as a hopeful makeup for the loss of Dumerveil. King, out of Georgia, was brought in to add depth to a strong receiver position. He has good speed and could turn in to a good player in the future. Painter will be a depth guy for the Broncs. The Broncos receive a pretty good grade of B from me. They lost Dumerveil on Fax Gate this off season, so they needed depth on the D Line. He isn't an end, but, big Sylvester is a dominating big guy up front. Montee Ball will fix a very dismal running game. The goal is Super Bowl this year, those moves indicate that. Picking Dysert in the 7th was a steal. He is a clone of Big Ben, and now he gets to learn from a Manning. He will be great in a few years. Chiefs- RD 1 Eric Fisher (OT), RD 3 Travis Kelce (TE),RD 3 Kniles Davis (RB), RD 4 Nico Johnson (ILB), RD 5 Sanders Commings (CB), RD 6 Eric Kush (C), RD 6 Braden Wilson (FB), RD 7 Mike Catapano (DE) The Chiefs were able to pick up the top tackle in the draft. Fisher is going to be their cornerstone on that line. He will be an integral part of everything that Reid wants to do. He will be able to keep Alex Smith up and will be opening up holes for Charles for years to come. Travis Kelce will be a legitimate weapon for Smith. The former bearcat is a playmaker and has great size. Kniles Davis is a guy a lot like Charles, fast and agile. He was injury prone at Arkansas, but, he can be a game breaker. Nico Johnson is one of the Alabama linebackers that seems to come out every year. He is smart and a sure tackler, he isn't going to be good in coverage however. The Chiefs wanted to go get a decent corner to help in a tough passing league, they see this in Sanders Commings from Georgia. Continuing with the protection of Alex Smith, they get Kush in round 6. The Chiefs get a solid B from me. They got their big guy in Fisher, he was a key pick. The brunt of their work came when Alex Smith came over from San Fran. Fisher will be a hole clearing, pass blocking stud on the end of the line. Kelce and Davis will be big in this offense now and in the future. Good, solid, team building draft. Raiders- RD 1 D.J. Hayden (CB), RD 2 Menelik Watson (OT), RD 3 Sio Moore (CB), RD 4 Tyler Wilson (QB), RD 6 Nick Kasa (TE), RD 6 Latavius Murray (RB), RD 6 Mychal Rivera (TE), RD 6 Stacy McGee (DT), RD 7 Brice Butler (WR), RD 7 David Bass (DE) D.J. Hayden is brought into to cover Rivers, Manning, and Smith. He has a lot on his plate. But, he was someone who rose on boards closer to draft day. At 4.38 40 times, he is a Raider for sure. He won't get burned, and he maintains closing speed to swat or pick a ball. Menelik Watson is a brawler on the line, and when he gets his hands on you, you are not getting off. Sio Moore, can run guys down and has a good head on him. Tyler Wilson was an interesting pick. He most likely will not start in 2013, he may, but I would be surprised. He is the QB of the future. Wilson has a live arm and can get it down field. Nick Kasa was brought in to fill a TE need for this team and will have a chance to earn playing time in year one. The RAAAAIDAS are gonna get a solid, very solid, B. They have a lot to work on to compete, they brought Flynn in to QB this year and got Wilson to be a backup for a while. D.J. Hayden was a good pickup for this team. An elite corner is needed and he is the guy. Menelik is a great linemen and Sio was an exceptional 3rd round pick. Chargers- RD 1 D.J. Fluker (OT), RD 2 Manti Te'o (ILB), RD 3 Keenan Allen (WR), RD 5 Steve Williams (CB), RD 6 Tourek Williams (DE), RD 7 Brad Sorenson (QB) The pick of Fluker is a very solid pickup. Phillip Rivers needs protection and in fluker, you will get it. He is big and fast with his hands, he won't let very many tacklers through. In round 2, the Chargers traded up to get Manti Te'o, the big pick. Someone was going to take him, and the team is the Chargers. He has been widely criticized for his performance against Alabama in the National Championship, other than that, he was sensational. If he has a square head on him he can be an impact player. He may be a little slow, but, he makes up for it with anticipation. Keenan Allen is a big pickup, he fell too far. This receiver may be one of the best ones in the draft. A knee injury aided in his fall, but, he should be okay. Phillip now has a new toy to throw too.The Chargers added Williams to breed him to be a pass defender, he is very raw, but coachable. The Chargers get a B- from me. Fluker was a good pickup, but Te'o is a major risk. He is a slow, slow, slow linebacker and probably won't be a game breaker any time soon. Keenan Allen was a solid pickup and a legitimate steal. I'm sure Phillip Rivers is happy with this draft.
