NFC East
The NFC East is a very tough division, once again. The Redskins emerged to win out last season. RG3 was able to anchor a very strong team, his injury was the last straw though. Griffen and his ability to run and throw, was incredibly unique. Coming back and doing it all again is a big question. If he does, they could be in contention again. The Cowboys were the Cowboys again, losing out down the stretch and missing the playoffs. The Giants tried their patented late season heroics again, but, they didn't have enough. And the Eagles were supposed to be the dream team just a season ago, oh how the mighty have fallen. Mike Vick couldn't stay healthy and the Eagles coasted to a dismal season. In the off-season they fired long time coach Andy Reid, and brought in Oregon coach Chip Kelly. He looks to bring a high octane offense to the NFL and has some fun chips to play with. Cowboys- RD 1 Travis Frederick (C), RD 2 Gavin Escobar (TE), RD 3 Terrance Williams (WR), RD 3 J.J. Wilcox (S), RD 4 B.W. Webb (CB), RD 5 Joseph Randle (RB), RD 6 DeVonte Holloman (OLB) The Cowboys first pick of Travis Frederick was met with boos, but, it could turn out to be a good pick. They need to protect Romo and give him time. He has proven that he has ability when given time. If Escobar can produce they may have a really good TE. He isn't fast, but, he runs solid routes and secures the ball. If they can harness his potential he could be good. Terrance Williams, in my opinion, is their best pick. The other two were lackluster and dull. He has good enough speed, with long strides, to break a coverage. He can go get a ball and has the ability to help Dez Bryant. The next two picks are made to sure up defensive back coverage in a league with Eli Manning, Mike Vick, and Robert Griffen iii. The 'Boys get an F from me. This was a horrendous draft. Travis Frederick, a center, with your first pick? It just does not add up. The team needs some pop and I didn't get it here. Just don't see it Jerry! Giants- RD 1 Justin Pugh (OT), RD 2 Johnathan Hankins (DT), RD 3 Damontre Moore (DE), RD 4 Ryan Nassib (QB), RD 5 Cooper Taylor (S), RD 7 Eric Herman (OG), RD 7 Micahel Cox (RB) The Giants, following the Cowboys, have had an incredibly dull draft. Nothing sexy. This is a team builder. Pugh will be a good tackle and guarding Eli is key for the team. Hankins has upside as a tackle, but, he probably won't be a super star. Same goes with Moore. Ryan Nassib was the pick that popped. He comes in to sit behind Eli and learn. They are similar QBs and Nassib can handle the cold weather. I think it was a solid pick and he will be a good backup, who can play if needed to. I am gonna give the Giants a C. The G-Men missed the playoffs after winning the Super Bowl. The East is a tough division and they need a little more to get over the top. The lines will be getting some help and the pick that sticks out is Ryan Nassib. He gets to learn under a Manning, much like Dysert, and will step in when needed. Eagles- RD 1 Lane Johnson (OT), RD 2 Zach Ertz (TE), RD 3 Bennie Logan (DT), RD 4- Matt Barkley (QB), RD 5 Earl Wolff (S), RD 7 Joe Kruger (DE), RD 7 Jordan Poyer (CB), RD 7 David King (DE) Lane Johnson is the best possible pick for the Eagles. What was their problem last year? Line. They get Johnson and he, like his fellow draftees, will be a cornerstone for Chip Kellys' line. Zach Ertz is a big 12 TE just like Colby Fleener last season. He can catch a ball and spread out to WR at times. Bennie Logan has good physical traits on the defensive line and Earl Wolff will sure up a suspect defensive backfield. Matt Barkley is a strange pick. He isn't mobile, so Chip may be saying that he wants to run a traditional offense. He now has a chip on his shoulder and tweeted that all the teams would regret passing on him. Along with Geno, there are two ticked off QBs that want to win. The Eagles will get a C+. Lane Johnson will sure up that terrible offensive line, and he will be elite for a long time. Ertz will be an okay TE, don't see a Gronkowski like career. Barkley was the key pick, he is going to be their future quarterback. The thing that ruins it for me (right now) is that, that isn't the QB that Chip Kelly needs for his system. Don't see this being a good QB-Coach fit. Redskins- RD 2 David Amerson (CB), RD 3 Jordan Reed (TE), RD 4 Phillip Thomas (S), RD 5 Chris Thompson (RB), RD 5 Brandon Jenkins (OLB), RD 6 Bacarri Rambo (S), RD 7 Jawan Jamison (RB) Amerson will be a big help for a team that needs corners, especially in the pass first league they play in. Amerson was a ball hawk in college and the Skins want him to bring that to the NFL. Jordan Reed will be brought in as a current TE and a future pass catcher. To stick with the theme of Amerson, they took Thomas to play safety. He needs work, but, could be an every down safety. In round 5 they added depth to the running game with Thompson, a productive Seminole. Jenkins can turn into a very powerful linebacker. He was hurt early last season. The Skins are going to get a B-. They had a need at the DB position, Amerson, Thomas, and Rambo were all very solid picks. Those picks will solidify a pedestrian defensive backfield. Jordan Reed will be a nice TE and safety blanket for RG3. The pick of Thompson will create some rest for Alfred Morris. Good draft with minimal picks.
