Premier League: 10 Biggest Transfer Window Mistakes

5. Bye Bye Cabaye

It wasn't really surprising that Yohan Cabaye departed for Paris, but it left Newcastle in a sticky situation as this one sale resulted in two huge mistakes- which the Tyneside club will pay for later down the line. The first mistake is selling Cabaye to begin with: it may have been inevitable, but the club went about in completely the wrong fashion - Newcastle could've, and should've, held out for more money as they could surely have got around £25million for the French midfielder, as Mike Ashley no doubt believes, given his subsequent dealing with Joe Kinnear. His price would also have increased as the season progressed and if he continued in the form he was on Newcastle could've got close to the £30million mark, especially with the World Cup likely to showcase his talents further. Not only did they sell him for the wrong price, they also did it at the wrong time. Then you have to take the fact they didn't bring in anyone to replace him into consideration.: the Magpies lost one of the best midfielders in the league and they didn't fill the gaping hole he left at all. It's bound to cost them, and the injury to Cheick Tiote has already shown the decision was a mistake.
