Premier League: 10 Managers Who Should Never Have Been Sacked
3. Sam Allardyce - Blackburn Rovers Sam Allardyce took over as manager of Blackburn Rovers in December 2008 with the club 19th in the Premiership table and in serious threat of relegation. He steadied the ship at Rovers and eventually led them to a comfortable 15th place finish in his first season in charge. Under Allardyce, Blackburn built a reputation for being hard to beat, especially at home. This was shown in the2009/10 season where they remained unbeaten against the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United. Their good form at home earned them a very respectable 10th place finish that year. In December 2010, the Blackburn owners shocked the football world by announcing that Sam Allardyce was to be relieved of his duties with the club lying in 13th place in the table, and just a couple of points outside of the top half. What was perhaps more shocking, was the decision of the owners not to replace Allardyce with an experienced manager. Instead, he was replaced by the now infamous Steve Kean, who would go on to become one of the most hated managers in the history of the Premier League. The following season, Rovers were relegated to the Championship and Steve Kean remained in a job throughout the entire season, despite the protests of fans. One can only wonder where Rovers would be had they stuck with Allardyce. In just over a year and a half Rovers went from being one of the toughest teams to beat in the country under Allardyce, to being the laughing stock of the league under Steve Kean.
