For the most part, it looked like QPR chairman Tony Fernandes had learned his lesson. During their last miserable stint in the Premier League, the mantra 'experience is key' was used to the wrong effect, as the Hoops were effectively turned into a pensioner's home for the ageing mercenaries who couldn't give a toss about the club. This time around, with Harry Redknapp firmly at the helm, they have instead focused on more intelligent signings, such as Chilean winger Mauricio Isla, Norwich midfielder Leroy Fer and Cardiff pair Jordan Mutch and Steven Caulker. However, one can't help but be sceptical about one new signing within their ranks - Rio Ferdinand. While it would be unfair to cast aspersions on the former England captain's professionalism and conduct, it must be stated that there is a reason Louis van Gaal wanted the 35 year old out of the club. Having obviously lost a yard of pace, Ferdinand has struggled to adapt in recent years, and was pinpointed as one of the key factors behind Manchester United's recent malaise. There will never be a fear of the former West Ham skipper becoming another Jose Bosingwa and throwing a couple of strops whilst picking up an extortionate wage, but one could see his ageing, immobile body exposed time and time again by the pacey strikers of top-flight football.
