5. Tottenham Hotspur
This could be a boom or bust season for Spurs. AVB has shown that he is capable of engineering great things but he is just as likely to lose the dressing room and oversee a real implosion. The Modric saga hasn't helped but it does seem to be coming to an end and the money gained from that deal has to be spent on a striker. The attacking quality of Bale, Van Der Vaart, Lennon and Walker is undeniable but with only Jermain Defoe as an out and out goalscorer they are incredibly short up front. The signing of Jan Vertonghen from Ajax will help bolster the defence but with Scott Parker missing the start of the season and Luka Modric heading to Madrid there are one or two questions for AVB to look at. If he can't and they start the season poorly then it's not inconceivable that the ghosts of Stamford Bridge could lift their ugly heads and pour pressure on "the group one". Saying that there is every chance that before the end of August he has completed deals for Joao Moutinho or Yann M'Vila and has found a way to get Adebayor back to the Lane. If so I reckon that they will heavily challenge for the top four but will just miss out. First Three Games: Newcastle (A), West Brom (H), Norwich (H)
