Premier League: 8 Most Over Hyped Players Of This Season

6. Ricky Van Wolfswinkel

The hilariously named Dutch striker signed for Norwich in March last year for a club record fee of £8.5 million. Spending that kind of money on a player who has never played in England and 4 months before the player would actually set foot in your clubs training ground could be seen as quite a gamble. But Norwich needed goals, knowing that Grant Holt would be departing, and so spent big. No doubt Chris Hughton and Canaries fans were hoping he would be what their team needed. Would he settle into England and score goals for fun? 6 months into the season and only 1 goal scored kind of answers that question irrevocably. He started brightly, scoring a well timed header in his debut match against Everton which earned his team a 2-2 draw, but he then went 6 games without a goal and wasn't trusted in the starting line up for another 7 games. It's easy to think that any striker would struggle in this Norwich team at present. Their midfield leaves little to the imagination and their centre forwards are required to make themselves opportunities because they seem to be so devoid of any real service. It's just a shame that a young, talented European striker hasn't really found his feet in the Premier League.
