Premier League: Top 10 Transfers On Deadline Day

5. Gaston Ramirez (Bologna to Southampton)

One of the most surprising moves on deadline day, although it has been bandied about in the press for a while. The signing of Gaston Ramirez can be considered something of a coup for Saints boss Nigel Adkins. Already a Uruguayan international at the tender age of 21, Ramirez was reported to have suitors including the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham earlier in the summer. Yet Southampton stole a march on them, and announced the signing of this talented young winger on Friday. Although the fee was undisclosed, it was reported by the Star to be in the region of around £12 million, which would make it a club record signing. Nigel Adkins is certainly impressed by what he has seen, and is quoted as saying
"We have a young, exciting talent joining us who is one of the best around."
If those words are anything to go by, Ramirez will be hoping to make a name for himself at St.Mary's, and in doing so will hope to keep one of the favourites for relegation in the top flight.
