5. Luke Shaw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZjf--cOrV8 Another young footballer nurtured by Southampton's remarkable academy, at just 17, and on the back of his first season in the Premier League, Shaw seems certain to emulate the success of his predecessors that include the likes of Bale, Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Having made 25 appearances in his debut season in England's top flight, Shaw has illustrated in a relatively short period of time that he has the necessary qualities to play for one of the country's elite sides. Given his age and potential, the acquisition of Shaw would be a very sound piece of business for any Premier League side. Earlier this year, it was reported that
Chelsea were favourites to secure Shaw's services, with the club looking for a long term successor for Ashley Cole. This seems a very logical transfer target for Chelsea if they do not believe Ryan Bertrand to be capable of nailing down the Chelsea left back spot. However, this would be also be an ideal signing for the new Manchester United manager David Moyes, as it fits in perfectly with United's philosophy of signing young, talented players with an eye always firmly on the long term future of the club. Regarding left backs, United find themselves in a similar situation to their London counterparts. Both have been blessed with two of the best full backs in world football in Cole and Evra, but both now face a challenge to adequately replace their ageing stars. Another factor to take into account concerning a possible hijacking of a proposed Chelsea bid from United's perspective would be Moyes' affinity with Leighton Baines. The latter has proven to be one of Moyes' greatest signings as Everton boss, and unlike Shaw, is in the prime of his career. So with
Baines being tipped to replace Evra, Shaw seems likelier to be heading to Stamford Bridge. Yet, while his future destination may be unclear, his potential and ability remains there for all to see. Injuries aside, it seems extremely likely that Shaw will become a star of the Premier League and with the national side.
