Premier League: What We Learnt From The Opening Fixtures

The Special One Is Back

Mourinho starts with a win Jose Mourinho's second coming began with a win that did not really tell us much about Chelsea's credentials as title challengers. Sure enough it was comfortable, and yes Chelsea played some fantastic football at times with Kevin De Bruyne particularly impressive, but they do say you can only judge a side by the opposition. Goals from Oscar and Frank Lampard secured the three points, but in typical Mourinho fashion, they sat back absorbed all Hull could throw at them and picked up a clean sheet in the process. Hull themselves were always looking to secure a draw, but that possibility looked unlikely as early as the fifth minute as Allan McGregor clattered into Fernando Torres. Frank Lampard had his penalty saved though, before a superb move saw Oscar poke home, and then Lampard let rip from a 25-yard free kick which McGregor - who ought to have done better - flapped at and it nestled into the corner.
